A new version of Capella Reader has now been marketed by Capella, and it still remains free of charge. The URL to find it is :

We have used Capella for setting music since 1998 in preference to Sibelius or Finale, grown up with it over its evolution, set
the WGMA Psalter Praise & Glory with it, and now would like to recommend you all to join us with using its little spin-off Capella Reader.

The new version does much more than the old one did. It will open CAPELLA files (both *.cap and *.capx), MusicXML files, and MIDI files, and uses the new sound fonts when playing the scores. When using Capella Reader, the cursor will move to the correct place in the music as it plays.

You can all read, listen to, and practice with the free Capella reader and print out the scores themselves. You can also practice your own line of music, as well as singing along to the whole score. Link to IGQ web page :  http://www.immanuelsground.com/practice/complete-scores.htm  

All you have to do is enter your email address and download the .exe file which will probably find its way to your 'downloads' folder. Don't use the alternative App.  If you have already downloaded what will be an older Reader, I would suggest removing it before re-installing the new version - only this new version has the added benefits.

From the web site the Midi files will go to your downloads folder, also probably the Capella files. Right click the midi files and say "Open with Capella Reader 8".  You may then also have to click on a blue index page where you should find the name of the file you want. Yes, midi files will also produce music files! Forget the XML files for the time being. If you download the Capella file for the Score, individual controls on the bottom left of the music page will enable you to hear your part either by itself (solo), or with the other parts muted in the background.  An opened Capella part file appears not to have that opportunity available. 

We have started to experiment with how such alternatives might be easily presented, see below!  This may not be the final version.

Please do now download the free software and have fun with the options Reader provides. The best results I think are to use the capella files, not the Midi files. and to listen to your line with the others in the background. The Capella Part files are more restricting by themselves, but also useful in a different way.  Edwin

11052024-Currently experiencing problems with PDFs not displaying properly - hence different links being used, which have alternative ways of production of PDFs.
Some pages, especially in  P15 Deptford, are not being reproduced completel, tops of words disappearing etc. This does not seem to affect printed copies, only just those which are being displayed. Likewise this defect in not necessarily seen all the time. 
12052024-Problem appears to have been cleared by seeking a different approach to including TTFonts when creating PDFs. Ref:  https://www.maths.cam.ac.uk/computing/printing/pdf-fonts - please advise any further problems?
